HUMC Youth Mission Trip & Stuff

Well, the gang left out yesterday morning after early church. I am not quite sure how many kids were going, but the HUM Bus was full, and so was the red van. Most definitely lift up prayers for the kids and for the brave chaperones who went along!

This leaves Louis and I to ourselves this week..........woo hoooo. Last year we went on a little trip, but decided to stay home this time as we are going to the beach later in the month. We may go somewhere towards the end of the week, but have to be back by Friday evening s that is when the kids are supposed to come back.

Ahh, the beach. I just love it! Sand and all. Nothing calms me more than watching the water and listening to the waves. Five years - that's our goal. Soon as Andy graduates from Pelham HS in five years, that is where we are going. People have said, "oh, that will change once the grandbabies are here." No, the parents and grandbabies can come see Nannie and Poppy down at the beach! I've jokingly said we're going to sell everything and buy a travel trailer and live in one of the RV parks. That way, when a hurricane comes, we can pull up and go up to Montgomery to ride it out. May not be the best of ideas, but it is just one of the options bopping around in my head. Work? Oh well, I can always be a greeter at Wal-Mart, and Louis can do airbrush t-shirts on the beach.............

Very new to this...

Well, this is first for me. Growing up I never kept a diary, like so many of my other friends, which was probably good as my mother was a very, very nosey woman. So this concept of writing down my thoughts every now and then is very new to me. However, I do like to voice my opinions so this will be an outlet for me!

Do any of you have dachshunds? Oh Lord have mercy! Such barkers and chewers are my two! The brown one, Champ, seems to have an appetite for plants, i.e. hydrangeas, tomato plants, rosebushes and insulation stuff around pipes. The blonde one, Gus, thinks he's the BIGGEST, BADDEST dachshund ever, and barks his fool head off. We have bought the yucky spray stuff to try to get Champ from chewing on things, but so far nothing has worked. And as for the barking, I guess maybe we will try a muzzle next. But, when they look at me with those beautiful puppy brown eyes.......sigh. How come we are more tolerant with our dogs than our children?
My husband and son have a little grass cutting business called "A Boy & His Dad Yard Services" that has really done well. We have about 10 steady clients and are always on the look out for anyone who needs something done...whether it be a one-time basis, or recurring. Sometimes I help out because it is wonderful exercise. Nothing like pushing the 'ol lawnmower to work up a sweat. Best cardio I've ever done. And, when you're through the yard always looks so nice. Something to be proud of. Louis made all of his spending money during college mowing yards on the weekends, and that was back in the late 70's and early 80's. You can imagine he did not get as much money per yard as they do now. He's hoping to instill the same work ethic on Andy. It's working - slowly slowly!
